About me

I am a Chicago-based
creative Director,
Brand Identity Designer,
Artist & Printmaker.

I grew up in Des Plaines, IL and attended the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana, receiving my BFA in Graphic Design. I also studied Industrial Design for a year.
After college, I worked for over a decade with some incredibly talented people at the creative firm Tanagram, where we designed some of the first websites in Chicago and developed a niche in integrating technology with graphic design (and vice versa.)
In 2004, I launched my design business focusing on brand identity for small to mid-sized businesses and organizations. Our approach is to discover everything we can about our clients’ aspirations, character, and values, and then we reveal this to the world through visual form that is honest, compelling, and beautiful. True story.
When I’m not designing for clients, I am painting, drawing, or working with glitter. Some of my older artwork was based on typography, but these days, I am more interested in pure abstract expressionism. I want to make images that are immersive, emotional, and new.
Printmaking has been a great way for me to combine the freedom of art making with the production limitations of graphic design. I love silkscreening, engraving, and lithography. I’m fortunate to live in a city with so many great printmaking people and resources.
My wife Parris, our dog Jett, and I live in Chicago’s Northcenter neighborhood in the Bell & Howell building where my grandfather worked during the Depression.
